Honesty is the Best Policy...Unless there is a New Company Policy!
Don’t you just hate it when someone uses “company policy” to get in the way of what you want?
Doesn’t it make you mad when you feel there is no real company policy in tact but it is a convenient excuse to use as a way of getting around stuff?
And wouldn’t you prefer it if people would let you know up front what is the company policy is or if in fact they have one … rather than feeling compromised after the event?
Like you, and millions of others around you, you may have watched others place blame elsewhere, make excuses and deny responsibility if they don’t feel like addressing issues. However the big picture also means that sometimes, there are just new policies colliding with old policies and no one really knows what’s going on. I would be a whole lot easier to say, (with meaning) ‘sorry, this change is not something within my control and I too understand the challenges. It must be frustrating for you, yet being upfront is not easy. It’s simplex – simple to know, but complex to do!
Seems to be we need to get clearer in our workplaces about what’s changing and being honest when we don’t.
After all, honesty is the best policy. And that’s not likely to change!
