So, what business are you in?

By |February 25th, 2019|Leadership|

One of the most common questions asked at gatherings or events is; So, what do you do? Typical answers are; I’m an accountant, a lawyer, a brickie or baker. As a result, we hear; Oh yeah? Nice – How’s business? And that’s pretty much the end of it as we go on to sport and travel. Superficial questions and go nowhere answers. You see, most people don’t talk about the business they’re in, just the description of the role they play. If you’re in the accountancy business, you’re in the business of supporting and preparing people for a life of freedom [...]

Audacious Leadership: Leading with Care

By |January 16th, 2019|Leadership|

Being a leader also means carrying the responsibility to direct your followers to success. To relate, engage, and maintain good rapport with them requires a leader with audacity and the right amount of care. Leading with care is being mindful of people’s needs. The ability to give encouragement and enhance confidence can create a positive working environment and state of mind. When one feels disregarded, it opens a door for negativity and spreads out like a virus. If you know how to lead with care, you develop a certain level of trustworthiness from your team or organisation to speak out [...]

Audacious Leadership: Leading with Conviction

By |January 15th, 2019|Leadership|

Leaders with conviction are incredibly valuable in our society, but why is it that they seem to be dwindling in number? Unfortunately, our brains are wired to be afraid of uncertainty and as uncertainty increases, we become anxious, we panic, and we falter in our beliefs. This part of our instinct for self-preservation is something that business leaders must overcome, because we live in a world where many important decisions have to be made on the spot, and with minimal information. In business, things change and happen so quickly that there is always a great deal of uncertainty about what’s [...]

By |January 14th, 2019|Leadership|

In these times of constant pressure and uncertainty, a confident form of leadership is vital to cultivate audacity in order to be effective. Like many, one can be easily tempted to give up or give in when situations get rough or frustrating. Times like these call for an audacious and confident leader to step in. Courage develops authenticity as an effective leader. Showing stability in making distressing decisions create an atmosphere for everyone to be more comfortable and focused in finishing goals. It also allows one to practice authority to lead without others doubting their steps. Leaders who make others [...]

What is your proudest achievement in 2018?

By |December 22nd, 2018|Leadership|

Being proud of your achievements, however small is something we should be sharing with those near and far. As we continually struggle to make a difference in how and what we do, take a moment to reflect on the small things that you do that make a big difference in the lives of others. Celebrate what you are doing – not what you want to do. Listen to my recent interview on this topic with Harvey Deegan on 6PR,

Busting the myth on being busy before Christmas

By |December 13th, 2018|Leadership|

We’re always busy. Chronically busy, super busy and stupid busy. If we weren’t, we’d be considered lazy, obsolete or simply not ‘in business’. In fact, there no longer exists a time our calendar tells us we’re un-busy. And given we’re smack in the middle of ‘the silly season’, everyone’s already bemoaning the fact they’re ‘flat chat’ and can’t possibly consider anything else until mid-January. The problem is, in mid-January, we’re flat chat catching up. The kicker is that you only have to wait a few weeks and you’ll hear how busy everyone is preparing for Easter, long weekends and school [...]
